What this is

A calm, carefully edited guide to recordings of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan that are available through YouTube’s official embedded player. Each entry explains why it is included, who published it when that is known, what setting or release it represents, and what is still uncertain.

It is a discovery and reference interface, not a music service. This site does not host, download, convert or rehost audio or video. All playback happens in YouTube’s own player, which loads only when you press Play. Playback is provided by YouTube’s official embedded player and is subject to YouTube’s terms. This site shows no advertising of its own, but YouTube may show ads in its player.

Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan

Editorial draft pending human review.

Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan (1948–1997) was a qawwali singer whose performances with his qawwal party carried qawwali — described by Real World Records as a form of Sufi devotional music popular in South Asia — to audiences around the world. His Real World Records catalogue includes Mustt Mustt (1990) and Night Song (1996), both made with Michael Brook, and he also worked with Peter Gabriel and Eddie Vedder.

Two ways to explore

Verified archive: entries with independent source evidence, with uncertainty and rights information preserved. YouTube discovery: third-party listings screened for relevance, current official embedding availability and known objections. Their uploader-supplied titles and channel identities are attributed to YouTube; they are not authenticated recordings, endorsed releases or copyright-cleared works.

Discovery listings use the official player under YouTube’s service terms. Availability can vary by country and is enforced by YouTube. Known takedowns, source blocks, disputed identity and rights concerns prevent publication; uncertain cases remain held. YouTube Terms.

How archive entries qualify

Entries follow either a staff review or an automated, evidence-based publication policy. Automated entries require a primary label page identifying the recording and selecting the exact YouTube upload, current API availability and embedding checks, source attribution and no known conflicting rights or provenance evidence. A public video or an “official” channel name alone does not qualify.

Automated qualification is recorded as a system action, not a human review. Source attribution does not assert copyright clearance, ownership or permission to reuse the media. Uncertain entries stay out of the public catalog. For staff-reviewed entries, the checklist is:

  1. Artist / performer validated
  2. Source URL checked
  3. Provenance tier assigned
  4. Context and tags reviewed
  5. Duplicate check done
  6. Rights language reviewed
  7. YouTube availability and embeddability checked
  8. Original summary reviewed
  9. Accessibility metadata checked

Recordings are never merged on title alone. The same performance can appear in several uploads, and one performance can appear on several releases; editors compare dates, venues, durations, labels, catalogue numbers and source notes before linking them.

Provenance tiers

Tier 1
Direct label, artist, estate, archive or rights-holder source
Tier 2
Reputable broadcaster, library, museum, established catalog or specialist publication
Tier 3
User upload or playlist with discovery value; provenance not verified

A label or artist-branded channel is a provenance signal, not proof that every rights layer is cleared. Words such as “official”, “restored” or “original” are attributed to whoever made the claim. Appearing in a playlist never establishes authenticity or rights.

Coverage

This is a curated and continuously expanding catalog. It is not a complete list of every video available on YouTube.
